For two episodes in July, young actor Easton Winn filled in as James West on General Hospital when the character’s regular portrayer, Gary James Fuller, was unable to work because of an injury. Following Winn’s second appearance as James, Fuller and his family posted to Instagram to thank him for pitching in.
The Show Must Go On
“After watching his episodes, I just wanted to say congratulations to Easton Winn on his very first acting job!” he wrote. “I know it can be really exciting (and a little scary) to be on a TV set for the first time, so I think it’s awesome that you got to be part of the General Hospital family.”Born back in 2018, Maxie (Kirsten Storms) and Nathan’s (Ryan Paevey) son, James, was played by a series of twins until Fuller took over the role in April 2023. In recent months, Fuller was part of a major front-burner storyline when his father apparently returned from the dead only to be later revealed to be Nathan’s twin brother, Cassius Faison, who had been impersonating his sibling all along.
In the July 16 and July 23 episodes of GH, the role of James was recast with Winn because Fuller was unable to work after badly injuring himself riding his bike. The first episode was the one in which Cody (Josh Kelly) broke the news to James that “Nathan” had actually been Cassius, and the second was where James said good-bye as he prepared to move to Australia with his mother, Spinelli (Bradford Anderson), Georgie, and Bailey.
“Thanks for taking such good care of James while I was away,” Fuller added. “It makes me really happy to see the character I love getting to play in such good hands. I hope you had as much fun on set as I do! I hope you made lots of great memories, and that you keep chasing your dreams. I’ll be cheering you on! Congratulations, Easton!”
With James moving to Australia to live with his family, it’s unlikely that Fuller will be seen reprising the role on screen again anytime soon, but the door has been left open for a visit at some point in the future.
